Meaningful internships are the core of the Colorado Leaders, Interns, Mentors in Business (CLIMB) summer program, and are the biggest reason these outstanding students come to Denver for the summer. The first challenge is for the Employer to plan and state an exciting Job Description that details the work the student will do, the supervision and involvement he or she will have, and the impacts the student’s work will have on the organization and community (please see our Job Description Template).

Two of the best aspects of the program are: 1) it is a free market system:  employers post jobs on this website and students apply and interview directly with those companies; 2) the value proposition for employers is excellent: they get focused attention on neglected projects by highly motivated and intelligent students for less than $13 per hour.

In addition, during the 8-10 weeks the students are working, the Employer’s interest, enthusiasm, and engagement are critical in making the job an educational gain for the student, and in making the Employer and Denver attractive for permanent employment.  Cleveland’s similar program is attracting 50% of its interns to return to full time employment upon graduation, which will greatly benefit employers and that city. Often a chief benefit to employers is getting talented, energetic, and focused effort on projects that have not yet been completed in the normal course of the organization’s operations.
